Mascara Grab Bag: Dress for the Occasion

Mascaras run the gamut – I’ve tried fantastic cheap ones, disappointing expensive ones, and vice versa. I was very excited when I found a bunch of high end mascaras for $13 on eBay. My friend thought this was creepy, but I assure you they were unopened and unused. Trying these new lash finishers reaffirmed my theory that different mascaras fit different moods, occasions, and personalities.

The Lowdown

My Fave: Urban Decay Supercurl

Wham bam glam! This mascara supremely impressed me, and  believe me I’ve tried dozens. Volume, length, and curl all in one? Yes please! If you’re down for glitzy day or night, this one’s for you.

My Least Fave: Laura Geller

This one is more for the demure diva. The nice thing is it’s good for layering, building up to the level you want if you don’t like to wear a lot of makeup. Just not enough pop and sizzle for me.

The Others:

Ultraflesh The Gold Standard – This thin wand gives good length without clumping. It reminds me of Clinique’s Supermascara, which I was in love with in college. It’s great for everyday use.

Too Faced Lashgasm – Love the name! It was good for volume, but I have found drugstore versions that do just as well. This would be a good date night mascara.

LashFusion XL – Great with a smoky eye! I found this one a little wet and messy, but it was superblack and volumizing. From what I could see online, there have been some great clearance sales on this lately.

I’m Gellin’…in Heels

I was excited to take on my first assignment for BzzAgent, tackling one of the prettiest things ever – high heels – and one of the ugliest – feet. They sent me a pair of Dr. Scholl’s for high heels, but I kept avoiding my heels, most of which are peeptoe, because I didnt have time to do my toes. Again, feet are ugly.

Yesterday, I got to give them a try. I avoided my highest, most uncomfortable heels – they are about half a size too small, so it’s my fault they are uncomfortable. I went with a tried and true pair. I knew at the beginning of the day it was their last run. These are the shoes that are adorable yet fairly comfortable, the pair that I get tons of compliments on, the pair that is falling apart from wearing so much and I probably should have thrown out two years ago.

After a looooooooooong day, eight hours of work and four hours of driving class (yes they really do mean it when they tell you not to speed in school zones), I came to a very clear conclusion. It was time to say goodbye to my old friends, the brown peeptoes. I had not realized how incredibly uncomfortable they were until I wore the Dr. Scholl’s all day – my feet still felt great at the end of the day. Regardless, this goodbye was long overdue. However, I can’t wait to try out these insoles are some more pairs of heels!

Easy Saturday Night Smoky Eye

I saw the Maybelline Color Pearls shadow in the store many times before I finally bought it. It didn’t look that great in the package, but I finally decided to give it a shot. I was hoping for some directions, but there were none. I had chosen the Carbon Frost; I just swept the dark color on my lid and the light pearlized side everywhere else. It looked great and was so easy! I know I sound overly excited, but with my super fair complexion, if I go wrong with a smoky eye, it looks like I got into a brawl.

I decided to try out a new liner while I was at it – Rimmel Exaggerate Liner. It was a great heavy liner, super black, but definitely would have been too much for day. It is very wet, so be careful not to blink too much or it will smear all over. I loved the drama of it, and it was really thick so I didn’t have to worry about that awkward space that sometimes happens between the line and the edge of the lid.

A Spa Quality Mask at Home

Unfortunately I got my latest ambassador box a little late, so I only got to try the Alchimie Forever Kantic Brightening Moisture Mask once before this Thursday’s Twitter and Facebook events. However, I was still impressed.

It took very little of the mask to cover my face, so it is a product  from which I can feel I’ve gotten my money’s worth. It felt silky and high quality. I was glad the instructions specified the mask doesn’t get hard or I might have assumed it wasn’t working.

It didn’t look like it was doing much either. My face just looked a little shiny while on. But I washed it off and my skin was SO soft. I would definitely try other products in the Alchimie line.

Go Go Gadget Lashes

When we were younger, my brother, who is three years younger than me, loved forcing me to watch shows that highly annoyed me, including Inspector Gadget. Though I hated the show, it seemed a catchy title for this post. When I first learned about my Bloom Ambassador assignment to test out Lashfood, I had mixed reactions. Part of me thought I actually like my lashes, but I was intrigued to see what a lash conditioner could do. Part of me was also skeptical that I would see any difference. The results?

The conditioner was really easy to apply; you just put it on like eyeliner. I forgot a couple times the first week, but after about a week and a half I started to see results. My lashes were thicker and fuller. The photos above are naked lashes – after four weeks, they looked better than ever in mascara. Full results take 16 weeks, so I’m excited to continue seeing my lashes get fuller and longer.
